Deng’s lab has established an extensive phage collection against several species of ESKAPE pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The current collection contains ~50 highly efficient phages, several of which are fully sequenced and characterized. In addition, a phage centre in Munich is being created, benefiting the state of the art technologies provided by Helmholtz Center Munich for preserving biosamples and with the support of the Technical University of Munich. The initiative is expected to significantly expand the isolation, characterization, and storage capacity of novel phages against ESKAPE pathogens and others.
